The Pattern History
The word Ikat comes from the word 'Mengikat', which means 'to tie' or 'to bind' and refers to the process of resist-dying to create pattern. Ikat textiles, which can be traced back thousands of years, transcend cultures, with decorative Ikat textiles seen across Central and Southeast Asia, China, Japan, the Middle East, West Africa, and Latin America.
